Well, since Big G, my oldest, is leaping into manhood at the speed of light, and has become thoroughly obsessed with rising early each morning just to get his fix of Sportscenter to “start his day off right,” I finally decided to accept my fate as a football mom and sign the boy up for flag football. Since the onset of hormones and grumpy attitudes, it has been a long time since I have seen this boy so happy and excited about something. That alone makes it SO worth it. 🙂
So now we are at his first practice and everyone is giddy with excitement. He has his new cleats on, water bottle in hand, and a grin from ear to ear. He is the tallest,of course (I mean, he is only 11 and already taller than me, and I am 5’5”.) His team name is the Panthers, which he loves, since he is a fan of the Carolina Panthers. The best thing is that the sport is through Upward, a Christian-based sports organization. Focusing on maintaining a Godly character, even in a competitive situation, is more important than just learning the rules to the game.
Ok, now practice is over, and Big G had a BLAST. His coach is awesome and definitely made him feel like a special player as a part of a special team. He did a wonderful job of focusing, following direction, and being a good team player. Although he has played sports before, I think this will most likely be his best experience yet!
And now he is looking forward even more to being able to play tackle next year with the big guys. Oh my.
