The ESV Illuminated Bible – Review & GIVEAWAY!

Hello readers! It has been quite a while since my last post, and I know most of us are running around crazy trying to prep the turkey and all the trimmings for Thanksgiving! But, I hope you all can take a moment to check out this BEAUTIFUL new Bible that I just received, as I’m sure it will make the perfect choice for a Christmas gift this season!

I’m talking about the brand new ESV Illuminated Bible! Friends, this is no ordinary Bible. I must say I have NEVER received a more beautiful item to review for this blog. This Bible is absolutely gorgeous! It is a dark blue (other options available) cloth hardcover, with a permanent slipcase, both of which feature gold foil floral design.

This gold is carried over onto the gilded pages as well. And the gold doesn’t stop there. What makes this Bible truly special is the artwork contained within the pages. There are over 500 gold ink illustrations within the pages of this Bible, which range from full-page book title pages to small hand-lettered verses in the margins.

As I have said before, I am a huge fan of Bible journaling. This Bible is perfect for journaling, with its wide margins and smooth cream paper. There is plenty of room for additional lettering, sketches, and writing. And if you love the idea of journaling, but you don’t feel comfortable with your hand lettering and drawing abilities, this Bible is the perfect solution. The pages are already decorated with beautiful artwork, so you can just use the remaining margin space for adding personal notes, thoughts, prayers, etc. Or, for that matter, you don’t HAVE to write or draw at all. The pages are so elegantly done, they can certainly just be left as-is.

The quality of this Bible is simply amazing. It would definitely make the perfect gift for any special person in your life. (And let’s face it, is there any better gift for anyone than the Word of God?) It is sure to be a family heirloom.

Advice For Seekers – Book Review

image

I am thrilled to finally give my review of Advice For Seekers, written by the wonderful Charles H. Spurgeon, and published by New Leaf Publishing Group.

Though the book is a reprint of an old text, Words of Advice For Seekers, published in 1896, the wisdom in this book still certainly applies today. Because of the period in which it was written, there is the “thee” and “thou” language throughout, but nothing that I personally found to hinder my understanding. If anything, the language style makes the message all the more endearing.

As the title implies, this book was written specifically toward those seeking salvation through Christ Jesus. It touches on ideas such as our inability to save ourselves through our own good deeds, how our own self-righteousness hinders our humbleness necessary to focus on Christ alone, and how even though none of us can be “good enough” for God in deed or thought, we must come to Christ, just as we are, and He will intercede on our behalf.

Charles Spurgeon, as always, is simply wonderful. His message is direct, and his words can often be hard-hitting, but they are always the plain and simple truth. Although intended for seekers, his wise words are applicable to followers as well, serving as a reminder to constantly remain focused not on ourselves,  but on Christ, our Savior. Quite frankly, we all need to hit the reset button once in a while. Occasionally, we need to get rid of all the clutter, move beyond ourselves and beyond religion, and refocus on our relationship with Jesus Christ. This book, through its loving reminders of basic principles, can help us do just that. I highly recommend this book both for new seekers, and for those who are seeking a closer, deeper, stronger walk with the Lord.

Disclaimer: I was provided a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions and review. I received no compensation.
